Bird: Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus)

Height: 23"

Brownish bill is very long and curves downward, eye is dark, legs are dull olive with orange at the joints. When breeding, legs and skin around eyes turns red. Immature very similar to adult.

Voice: A trumpeting "hunk" and gutteral "rahk" call, other low grunts...

Feeding: Feeds on banks and in shallow water. Eats crayfish and small crabs, insects and snakes.

Behavior at Wakodahatchee: The Glossy Ibis is often found feeding or roosting in groups with White Ibis. The behaviors of the two birds are very similar. The Glossy Ibis at Wakodahatchee are shier than the white Ibis and seem to prefer to feed further away from the boardwalk.
